What's in a name?
Some weeks after we had decided on Practico as a name for our new firm (simply because we liked how it sounded and looked and with a glance towards a contraction of Practical Costs) we stumbled upon this Wikipedia definition of our name in Spanish. We now really like the metaphor
“A Práctico is a pilot who leads ships into dangerous waters or heavy traffic, such as harbours, narrow channels or rivers. However, the Práctico is only an adviser, while legally the captain continues to command the ship. Pilotage is one of the oldest professions and yet one of the lesser known, despite being one of the most important in the safety of navigation. The economic and environmental risks posed by large cargo ships of today, make the Práctico's role essential.”
